Two Sites of London

Walking from Kings Cross to our London office it was a bit sad to see two of the coolest sights closed down.

First up the Astoria – an awesome music venue and the location for many a decent gig, from Anthrax with Bush a few times and then Belladona, Marillion gigs, Magnum gigs..  what a great venue.

Best gig at the Astoria – I think it would have to be Anthrax just after they released “We’ve Come For You All” – it was a sell out and they were on fire.  they returned within a year and were equally as awesome.

The sign now looks a bit battered!

Next up Tower Records – or the store that was Tower and then became Virgin and later Zavvi.   For many years this has been a huge music store – curiosity lead me to find CDs by bands such as Carcass here, more recently it’s extensive metal section introduced me to Battlelore after seeing a sticker reading “Finnish Power Metal” – how could one resist that!

And more importantly the store where I found Anthrax’s “Alive 2” on DVD on import before it was released in the UK – I was dead happy that day!  There was something about the store that I thought always made it really cool – like the Astoria a shame to see it go!
